'Mauwani' the plural of flower in Swahili refers to region of the hotel, which in history provided a good place to find flowers of many types of a pleasent fragrance and a pleasing visual site. The truth can be seen with the solitary Maua tree that to this day still survives in the hotel grounds as a symbol of a garden that has survived for over a century.

Mauwani Inn is situated in the heart of Stone Town along Kenyatta Road in the Vuga district opposite the Afya Medical Centre. The hotel is a mere 5 minutes drive from The Zanzibar Seaport and 10 minutes from Zanzibar International Airport by taxi.

The hotel provides 7 spacious airy double and single bedded rooms themed in a traditional Zanzibari style with replica antique Zanzibari beds. Each room benefits from large windows, a ceiling fan an air conditioning unit.. All rooms are self-contained with hot and cold running water. Rooms on the upper floor have balconies. During 2012 some 4 additional self contained rooms will be completed at the hotel.
